Beginnings can be hard to recognise, and that applies to me. Once this trip started l realised that it was a new start. It was easy to know because l was certain that l had bitten off too much, and that there would be no turning back. l have no idea just yet what will change, except that when it does, l will be the better for it.
My struggle began 3 days ago here in Montepulciano at this delightful language school. I am at age 68 years next week, so no excuses about not knowing better. My precious grey matter has handled far more complicated assignments, and more tedious ones as well in earlier years. What could be more exciting now than that voluptuous, seductive, often surprising and delightful tongue that l have been struggling with for the past 2+ years....MY ltalian.
Now is the time that 6 months of planning has come to pass and l have to face my new reality. Let me say.......
I had no idea of what awaited me last week as l packed my bags for a 4 week stay with an ltalian family in this beautiful 'hill town', famous for its great wine and beautiful scenery.
We have lift off. Mission Control is observing your progress. Well done that boy!

When your built in phrase book deserts you. then try using some stock (polite) phrases. e.e the Eytie equivalent of "goodness me" or "silly me". It should the person looking at you into using words that you understand and to which you can reply.
